Mettupalayam-Coonoor-Ooty

Coonoor is on the corner of the Nilgiri plateau and is about 6000 meters altitude. Coonoor is the terminus for the Nilgiri last 8 years. The government expansion Coonoor to Ootacamund and the line was operational from September 15, 1908. This line is widely used and many people can now travel easily through it.

Main Feature

Unique Rack System is the main characteristic of this line. He was quoted by Sir Guilford L. Molesworth report: “The engine that runs on the Abt System has 2 different functions: the first pull of the Union in the ordinary loco and the second is that by pulling the sprocket.

There are 4 in number of brakes, hand brakes including 2 which act by friction and the other 2, which act by controlling the release of free air and compressed air brake on the progress of the engine. The former are used for maneuvering while the latter two are used to reduce the vertical tilt. A hand brake is supposed to act on the tires on the wheels in the most ordinary way, and second, that works on the printed surface of the pinion shaft. This can be used in a place where the support is broken. The braking system on Nilgiri locomotives is very complicated, even after hundreds of years as it was in the year 1886.

It is 17 hours to reach Chennai Metupalaiyam train. Expenses for this trip is about Rs 20 in first class. The left over may go 33 miles to the vertical lift is 20 rupees. To this end, Tonga can be taken and heavy luggage can be sent by a cart. The best solution here is to take a pony and take care of luggage can be taken by the baggage of the individual airlines.

The current scenario

In the current environment, the people of Chennai Ootacamund leave the station at 9.00 pm and reach at Mettupalaiyam to 7.10 As part of the morning, after completing a journey of 10 hours. As the platform is only just over the train station path metric which leaves was 7.25 hours. The train reached Udagamandalam morning at 11:40 am Railway Nilgiri (NMR) is one of the results obtained by the engineers.
